Balfouri Tarantulas

Are you considering adding a Balfouri tarantula to your collection of exotic pets? These fascinating creatures are known for their striking blue colouration and unique social behaviour. In this article, we’ll cover everything you need to know about caring for Balfouri tarantulas, including their habitat, diet, and overall maintenance.

Balfouri tarantulas are from the rainforests of Tanzania where they live in burrows. To replicate this environment, you should provide your pet with a glass tank with dry substrate, with a minimum size of 16x8x8 inch.

The enclosure should have plenty of places to hide, including hollow logs or pieces of bark, so they can feel secure. Additionally, Balfouri tarantulas need vertical climbing spaces and ample ventilation. Keep the temperature between 70-80 °F and humidity between 70-80% in their enclosure to ensure their health and well-being.

Balfouri tarantulas are carnivorous and primarily consume insects like crickets, roaches, and mealworms. Offer them live prey, which hasn't been treated with pesticides, and avoid feeding them wild-caught bugs.

Adult Balfouri tarantulas require one fast day a week to promote digestion, and young ones need to be fed regularly. You can vary their diet by offering them different insects in different sizes.

Although Balfouri tarantulas need minimal maintenance, you should check on them regularly to ensure they are healthy. Make sure their water dish is full of clean water and remove uneaten prey.

Handle them with extreme care because Balfouri tarantulas are fragile and delicate creatures that can be easily injured or stressed. It's best to observe them in their enclosure instead of handling them, as they don't see well and might get scared.

The Balfouri tarantula is an intriguing and unique addition to any exotic pet collection. With proper care and maintenance, they can live for up to 5 years with females living up to 10 years.

Remember to provide them with an appropriate habitat, a balanced diet, and minimal handling to ensure their health and well-being. If you're interested in purchasing a Balfouri tarantula, look for a reputable breeder or pet store for a healthy, well-cared-for spider.
