Troglodillo Isopods For Sale

Troglodillo is a genus erected by Jackson in 1937 in the family Armadillidae, and its described species come mainly from caves in southern China and northern Thailand. It is a genus in its own right, not a recent split from Cubaris, though several of these animals were first sold under the Cubaris name. The "sp" in many of our Troglodillo product names reflects a different gap: only three species have ever been formally described, so most of what the hobby keeps is recognised by appearance and locality rather than by a published description.

What makes Troglodillo species worth keeping is their distinctive appearance and the slower-paced, more secretive behaviour of a genus best known from caves. Apart from the easy-going Soil isopod, and the Sunset as a gentle next step, they aren't beginner isopods - they want consistently high humidity, stable temperatures, and substrate that mimics their natural decaying-organic-matter habitat. One practical note on diet: nobody has published on what these species eat in the wild, so feed a mixed leaf litter and let the colony choose rather than building a diet around any one leaf.
