Why Isopods?
I have kept exotic animals for over 22 years. I had a corn snake from the age of 10 and my interest grew and grew to include an alligator snapping turtle, savannah bosc monitors, dozens of Tarantulas, scorpions and a Burmese python to name just a few.
-
As the Burmese python grew so too did the quantity of mess he was making in his 8 foot viv. My partner suggested diversifying the clean up crew in the enclosure to include isopods not just springtails, as my partner had kept isopods in her chameleon enclosure.
-
I eventually acquiesced and purchased some dairy cows isopods. Within a few months I had thousands ruling the vivarium.
-
I became fascinated by this amazing army that had amassed and my thoughts wandered to 'can I get different patterns and colours as these are amazing' and so down the rabbit hole I went.
-
I joined a few social media groups and became connected with Tom Marsh through a Facebook group. Tom took me under his wing and led me into the world of exotic isopods. I began keeping different species of isopod and my inner child took over like it had done collecting Pokémon cards many years ago but instead I was collecting pods.
-
I was an avid collector but the thought of releasing some pods from my colonies hadn't yet crossed my mind. Eventually I was inspired by others within the community to build my own brand and website (www.postpods.co.uk). This served not only to help index all my pods, like my own personal Pokédex but it also helped to share my own knowledge and experience back to the community.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are isopods?
Isopods are small, fascinating creatures that belong to the crustacean family - making them more closely related to shrimp and crabs than insects, even though they live on land. You might know them by their common names like "pill bugs," "roly polies," or "woodlice."
What are the best isopods for beginners?
Some of the best isopods for beginners include Dairy Cow, Powder Orange, and Zebra Isopods. These hardy species are easy to care for and great for starting your colony.
Are your isopods for sale to people outside the uK?
Unfortunately at this time, we can only post within the UK as we do not have the required permit/license to post isopods internationally but this is something we would really like to be able to do in the future.
Do You guarentee live arrival?
Yes we do. Unfortunately isopods can die in transit due to various reasons. In order to try mitigate this we do our best to pack your isopods as secure as possible. In the unfortunate event isopods do arrive dead, please notify us within 12 hours of purchase and we will rectify this situation with you. If you however miss your delivery for whatever reason we cannot give you any guarentee. We also provide a 20% overcount for all animals to cover any potential losses.
Do you have isopods for sale which are not listed on your site?
We like to think of our website like a Pokédex. Whenever we get new isopods in our collection we add them to our website and list them as unavailable, then once we have a good number of them we release some for sale. If you are ever looking for something specifically and it is out of stock, please get in touch as we are often happy to release small quantities for people.
How fast do you deliver?
We post orders out Monday through to Thursday each week using Royal Mails next day by 1pm guaranteed service. Orders placed by 7am on these days will be posted the same day, any orders placed after this may be posted on the next working day (in some cases we may be able to post later on the same day but this is suject to working from home as i always work a full time job in addition to running PostPods. During the winter months, orders may also be delayed due to the weather - please check our homepage for any information on this however we will always email anyone who's order will be delayed.
How many isopods should I start with?
We recommend starting with at least 10–15 isopods to establish a stable colony. Some species of isopod will breed quicker than others but having 10-15 to begin with ensures you have a good amount of both sexes as well as various ages.
Can I keep isopods and springtails together in the same enclosure?
Absolutely! In fact, isopods and springtails make the perfect cleanup crew team for bioactive enclosures. Springtails feed on mold and organic matter, while isopods handle decaying plant material and waste. Together, they help maintain a clean, low-maintenance, and natural ecosystem for reptiles, amphibians, or plant terrariums. Just make sure to provide plenty of leaf litter and a moist environment to support both species.
