Product description

Give your colony a serious nutritional boost with our 50g bag of 100% natural, raw bee pollen granules. Often referred to as nature's superfood, bee pollen is packed with protein, essential amino acids, vitamins (including B-complex, C, D, and E), minerals, antioxidants, and healthy fats — providing a complete and balanced supplement that goes well beyond what your isopods can get from leaf litter and decaying wood alone.

Why Bee Pollen?

Bee pollen is rapidly becoming a staple in the isopod hobby, and for good reason. The high protein content supports healthy moulting, growth, and — crucially — reproduction, helping to boost breeding rates and overall colony strength. The naturally occurring enzymes also aid digestion, helping your isopods absorb more nutrients from their regular diet. Many keepers report noticeably more active, vibrant colonies after introducing bee pollen as a regular supplement. A little goes a long way — a 50g bag will last most keepers several months of regular feeding.

Which Species Benefit?

Bee pollen is loved across a wide range of genera, making this a versatile addition to any keeper's supply shelf:

Cubaris – Slower-breeding species like Rubber Ducky, Panda King, and Amber benefit hugely from the extra protein and nutrients that bee pollen provides, supporting reproductive success in species where every brood counts.

Armadillidium – From popular beginner species like A. vulgare and A. maculatum (Zebra) to collector favourites like A. klugii (Clown) and A. gestroi, Armadillidium species readily take to bee pollen. The calcium and mineral content also complements their need for a strong exoskeleton.

Porcellio – Active, protein-hungry species such as P. scaber, P. laevis (Dairy Cow), P. ornatus, and the larger Spanish species like P. expansus and P. hoffmannseggi are enthusiastic feeders. Bee pollen gives these high-energy isopods the nutritional density they crave.

Porcellionides – Fast-breeding powder isopods (P. pruinosus morphs like Powder Orange and Powder Blue) are always hungry and will readily consume bee pollen, helping to fuel their rapid colony growth.

Ardentiella (ex Merulanella) – Several keepers include bee pollen as part of a supplemental diet for species like Ember Bee and others in this genus, alongside their primary diet of lichen, decaying wood, and leaf litter.

Oniscus, Venezillo, Trichorhina & others – Bee pollen is a great all-rounder supplement that benefits virtually all terrestrial isopod species kept in the hobby.

Bee pollen is also excellent for springtails, millipedes, cockroaches, and other invertebrates — so if you keep a mixed collection, one bag goes a long way.

How to Use

Simply sprinkle a small amount into your enclosure and allow your isopods to graze. Best used as a supplement alongside leaf litter, protein sources, and calcium. Remove any uneaten pollen after 48 hours to prevent mould growth.
