Beardie Buffet is Repashy's complete gel diet for bearded dragons - an all-in-one formula combining the insect protein, vegetables, fruit, calcium and vitamins that beardies need, in a powder you reconstitute with boiling water into a firm, sliceable gel. For an animal whose proper diet is notoriously fiddly (live insects gut-loaded and dusted, plus daily fresh salad in the right ratios), Beardie Buffet packs the whole nutritional picture into one preparation.
What's In It?
The formula mirrors a bearded dragon's natural omnivorous intake: insect meal for protein, plus a substantial plant component of vegetables, fruit and flowers. Calcium and vitamin D3 are built in at levels appropriate for a species highly prone to metabolic bone disease when supplementation is missed.
How to Use It
Mix 1 part powder with 2-3 parts boiling water, stir thoroughly, and let it set at room temperature (10-20 minutes). Cut into appropriately sized strips or cubes. Refrigerate prepared gel for up to two weeks or freeze portions for up to six months - silicone ice cube trays work brilliantly for portioning.
Repashy recommends Beardie Buffet as part of a balanced diet rather than sole nutrition: keep live insects and fresh greens in the rotation. For your live feeders, gut-loading with Bug Burger before feeding ensures the insects themselves carry proper nutrition. Many beardie keepers also breed their own feeder cockroaches - dubia colonies are far more economical than buying crickets weekly.
Bearded Dragons and Bioactive Setups
Arid bioactive vivariums for bearded dragons have become genuinely popular, and they depend on drought-tolerant cleanup crews. Hardy Porcellio isopods from dry Mediterranean habitats handle the warm, arid conditions of a beardie enclosure far better than tropical species, working alongside springtails in the moist substrate layer. If you're running bioactive, leftover Beardie Buffet fragments become a protein bonus for the crew - though uneaten gel should still be removed within 24 hours in warm enclosures.
Beyond Bearded Dragons
Beardie Buffet suits other omnivorous lizards with similar dietary ratios - many agamids and omnivorous skinks accept it readily. For predominantly insectivorous species, Grub Pie is the better-matched formula; for blue-tongued skinks specifically, Bluey Buffet is purpose-built.
Sizes
Available in multiple sizes - the smallest is ideal for testing acceptance, while larger jars suit multi-animal households. One gram of powder makes roughly 3-4 grams of finished gel.
Ideal for: bearded dragon keepers wanting reliable complete nutrition; holiday/backup feeding when live insects aren't available; arid bioactive setups; juvenile beardies needing consistent calcium.
Not ideal for: strict insectivores (use Grub Pie) or fruit-eating geckos (use the Crested Gecko range). Browse the full Repashy range in our accessories collection.
