The Northern Invertebrate Show in Barnsley – 23 March 2025
The first local show to PostPods of the year and what a show it was!
As the show venue was only 35 minutes away from our Pod headquarters, we had a less hectic lead up with our show preparation compared to other shows. The biggest challenge to our show preparation was deciding what surplus pods to take to the show. We have so many thriving colonies that the choice was difficult. Nevertheless, we narrowed it down and brought our biggest and widest selection of pods ever to the Barnsley show.
We had Yellow Ghosts, Lemon Blues and Sunset pods at the show, a true show first for these pods and may be seen again at other shows throughout the year.
The wide selection we had available on show day was quickly noticed by our customers and other traders who gave us so much positive feedback on the variety on offer, often resulting in customers leaving with not one box of isopods, not two but three boxes or more. Happy customers indeed!
Another challenge to our show preparation, which was a little more stressful than expected, was figuring out how to operate a Cricut cutting machine to assist in cutting out our popular sparkly stickers. To say it was a nightmare would be an understatement. Once we got the hang of it was easy and Claire’s hand is now very thankful to not have to cut all the stickers by hand anymore.
Our holographic waterproof isopod stickers are growing in popularity with customers often taking more than one sticker to display. The show stickers sold out quicker than our rubber ducky isopods at Barnsley! We will be sure to have plenty of sticker stock to giveaway at the upcoming shows.
On route to the show, we picked up some Doh Boy Doughnuts to hand out to our fellow traders and friends. The doughnuts were each the size of small plates and were a mini food challenge in one. The doughnuts were a welcome sugar rush to start what became a very busy show day.
The show hall was a great size for customers to have plenty of space to meander around the vending tables against the twinkly backdrop. As the show opened there were streams of people entering the hall which never seemed to end for a good few hours at the start of the show. It was fantastic to see so many fellow invertebrate enthusiasts in one place!
During the show we had so many customers and friends come and greet us. It was great to have in depth isopod conversations with you all sprinkled in with off topic conversations. We noticed we got a lot of referrals throughout the day from other vendors and friends directing customers to PostPods for isopod advice.
As the show neared the end and the people started to trickle away, we began a slow pack up of the stock and to our surprise we had sold over half of our stock. We encourage anyone who is interested in isopods to visit our table early on as many of our best show deals get snapped up within the first few hours of opening.
